In 2007, Michael Davies Architecture was approached by Hornsby Shire Council’s Recreation Manager and commissioned to investigate designs for a new Aquatic Centre in Hornsby Park. Designs were prepared and presented to Council at a special meeting.
Michael Davies Architecture adopted an innovative approach to the design of the new Hornsby Aquatic Centre, intended by Council to replace the existing Hornsby Swimming Pool.
Our unique solution to the site was to incorporate two levels of carparking below the new aquatic centre and to utilise an adjacent Council-owned property to provide vehicular and pedestrian entry to the facility.
The new building is thus located behind the building line of the existing Hornsby Swimming Pool and therefore has minimal impact on the surrounding Hornsby Park, its landscape and existing pathways and driveways.
