The Alexandra Park Sports Precinct and the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre (formerly the Albury Sports Stadium) cater for over 180,000 sports participants each year.
This includes carnivals which attract sports tourism figures of over 100,000 visits per year. The area caters for over 15 different sports.
Albury City commissioned Michael Davies Architecture and Fruit Group to clearly set out a vision for the development of a unified sports precinct over the next 25 years.
The facilities to be included in the Sports Precinct comprised:
Provision of two (2) show courts
New entry, kiosk and retail area
New amenities areas
Addition of gymnastics hall
Addition of gymnasium/fitness area
New aquatic centre
Subsequent to the preparation of the Alexandra Park sports and recreation precinct master plan, Albury City Council, asked Michael Davies Architecture to assist in the site selection for the provision of a regional aquatic facility. We prepared an outline brief and two concept designs for the Centre, one on a greenfield site between Albury and Wodonga and another as a major extension to the existing basketball stadium at Alexandra Park. The new centre incorporates a 51.2m x 8 lane indoor competition pool with moveable boom, programme pool, combined leisure and lap pool, hydrotherapy pool, gymnasium and pamper area. The scheme at Alexandra Park also includes a basketball show court, indoor netball court and gymnastics hall.
